The Co-operative College - a different kind of College for a different kind of business

College Re-accredited as Investor in People

In July the Co-operative College was re-accredited for a further three years as an Investor in People. The assessor, Stephen Maud, praised the College’s efforts by saying that we had comfortably met and indeed exceeded the standard. He was very impressed by the knowledge of the business and commitment shown by members of the Board recognising its’ strength and support for the College. A noteworthy strength was the clarity of purpose between the Board, the Leadership Team and the wider team which was seen as a crucial foundation for the work of the College

He went on the praise the induction programme as an example of good practice and identified how quickly new starters had gained an understanding of the College and its business. His view was that the ethos of the College 'came through loud and clear' and it had developed an 'in-built learning culture' where employees had a strong ownership of their work and responsibilities. Mr Maud said, ‘It was clear that the College’s approach to the evaluation meant that it was constantly looking at ways to improve processes and performance in everything it does.’

Chris Cooper, Director of Learning and Development said ‘This re-accreditation recognises the hard work that every member of the College team has put in. This was a collective effort and my thanks goes to everyone. Having been through this process a number of times, in several organisations this was the best feedback I have ever received. Assessors are not normally given to such levels of praise so I know we have done well.’

Mervyn Wilson, College Chief Executive and Principal commented, ‘Investors in People is important to the College as it is a nationally and internationally recognised standard. Based on the feedback from the assessor I am pleased that the College has again demonstrated its ability to exceed this standard. We are now benchmarking ourselves against the higher levels of the revised standard.’
