An Innovative Training MOdel for Social Enterprises Professionals/Qualifications

link to mose websiteThe Leonardo da Vinci II Program has among it’s objectives that of developing, through transnational cooperation, the quality, innovation and the size of European Professional Training, adding to the promotion of a knowledgeable Europe. Within the scope of the Program, the Pilot Project 'An Innovative Training Model for Social Enterprise Professional/Qualifications' was developed, which focuses its attention on the Third Sector through the study and the definition of a Professional Training Model for Manager’s of Social Enterprises.

This extremely innovative model, must first emphasise the experience of best practices, and from there define an integrated training course where the formal and informal approaches coexist and complement each other, with the final objective of creating management systems more adequate to the development of Social Enterprises at a European level. The model, which will be identified within the next two years of the project, will seek to achieve two main objectives:

  • Identify, define and describe the qualifications of top and middle management for Social Enterprises, with a particular focus on the roles of Social Enterprise Managers and Communication Specialists.
  • Identify, define and develop innovative training courses based on the blended approach, which will allow the utilisation of a necessary mix of formal and informal training, utilising modern information technology where applicable.

Within the MOSE Project, communication towards the stakeholders has a substantial value: it does not only seek to inform, but also to intercept and connect all of the potential interested parties, directly or indirectly implicated in the development of a Social Enterprise.

Partners from five European nations will be contributing to the development of the MOSE Project. In addition to the Comune di Avellino (Municipality of Avellino, Italy), which is the Project Promoter, and SI-Labo srl – Laboratorio per la Società dell’Informazione (Italy), which is the Project Coordinator, other Italian participants include VITA Consulting, ASVI, Cooperativa sociale La Locomotiva ONLUS and Associazione Diogene ONLUS. Other partners include CIES -Centro de Investigacion de Economia y Sociedad from Spain, The Co-operative College and Leeds Metropolitan University from the United Kingdom, the Caritas of Danzica from Poland and Apopsi from Greece.

Field research.

The field research started in the MOSE project is aimed to achieve a picture of the vocational training in the Third Sector/Social Economy fields. In this first stage of the work, we are running the survey, through the use of two questionnaires: one targeted to trainers with experiences in vocational training for the Third Sector/Social Economy; another targeted to managers of organisation which can be somehow classified as Social Enterprises, according to the definition of Social Enterprise adopted in the MOSE project.

If you would like to contribute to the MoSE project by completing the questionnaires on-line please go to the MOSE website.

Desk Research

As part of the Mose project the partner countries of Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland and the United Kingdom were required to complete a scenario analysis of the Third Sector within their country. This aspect of the project was completed through desk research.

The two main objectives of the scenario analysis were:

  • To produce a report that will describe the state of the art of the Third Sector in each country, including an overview of the legislative aspects.
  • To produce a report that will focus on the training aspects within the Third Sector and identify the opportunities that are available in each country for Third Sector managers. In addition, particular attention will be given to the role of equal opportunities within management training.

The final report for the scenario analysis includes a report from each of the partner countries describing the state of the art of the Third Sector, an analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats identified within each partner country and proposals describing how the findings of the scenario analysis can be used within the Mose model and links into the focus group facilitation.
