The Co-operative College was pleased to host a delegation of Fair Trade producers from Mexico, Peru, Uganda and Nicaragua.
As part of a UK tour in conjunction with Twin Trading, five Fair Trade producers took the opportunity to visit Manchester and the College. They visited the Co-operative store on Corporation Street and were shown around by the Co-operative Group’s Fair Trade manager Brad Hill. They were able to discuss Fair Trade issues with Brad and also to see their own organisations’ products on the shelves which brought huge excitement to the group.
This was followed by a visit to the Pioneers Museum at Toad Lane in Rochdale. Here the delegation were treated to an in depth tour of the Museum and learnt about how the movement started 160 years ago.
Nimrod Wambette, chairman of Gumutindo, Uganda commented
“It is a great honour to be stood in the very same building as the men who started this magnificent movement that has changed the world we live in. I will go back to my members and tell them wonderful stories about this museum”
The members of the delegation were:
- Juan Guzman Luna, President, Mas Café, Mexico
- Reynaldo Vazquez, President, PRODECOOP, Nicaragua
- Pasqual Laura Quispe, Director, CECOVASA, Peru
